"Potential adopters initially see the dogs in a kennel, where they are anything but themselves," says Maggie T. Mills. "Hopefully, the photos stir that feeling of, 'I've got to meet that dog,' and ultimately lead to dog and human finding 'The One'."
Maggie was inspired by One Picture Saves a Life, a non-profit that teaches shelter staff and volunteers nationwide how to better photograph homeless pets so that they look their best on adoption websites and get the second chance they deserve. Besides photographing dogs at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter, Maggie has become a dog handler at the facility with training provided by The Shelter Connection director of training, Rosanne Palumbo Wellmaker.
